Non-directive play therapy

Since little children don’t possess the cognitive ability to view experiences apart from themselves and don’t typically possess the language skills to communicate their emotions, non-directive play therapy allows them to express their inner experience through play .In nondirective play therapy the children direct their own process. It provides a safe place where children can work through deeper emotional fears, wounds, and experiences.

Possible reasons for non-directive play therapy:

  • Problems at school
  • To improve social skills
  • To improve self-confidence
  • When parents are going through separation or divorce
  • To work through sexual abuse and other traumatic events
  • When they experience separation-anxiety (marked by extreme clinginess)
